Deciding between the Hario V60 01 and 02? This comparison breaks down capacity, brew size, and fit so you can choose the right dripper for your daily pour-over.

Quick answer

Choose the Hario V60 01 if you typically brew a single cup (up to about 300 ml). Pick the Hario V60 02 if you often brew for two or want the flexibility to make larger batches (up to about 600 ml). The 02 also accepts the same filters as the 01 when folded, making it the more versatile choice.

Capacity and brew size

The Hario V60 01 is designed for single servings, holding roughly 1–2 cups of coffee (about 300 ml max). It's compact, fast to rinse, and perfect for a quick morning brew. The Hario V60 02, on the other hand, holds up to about 600 ml, comfortably serving two people or one person who wants a larger mug without brewing twice.

If you mostly brew for yourself and prefer a smaller dripper that takes up less counter space, the 01 is a tidy fit. If you entertain guests or like to make a full cafetière-style batch, the 02 gives you that headroom without needing a second dripper.

Filter compatibility and flexibility

Both sizes use their own designated filter papers, but the Hario V60 02 can also accept 01 filters when folded. This means if you own the 02, you can still brew a single cup with the smaller filter, making it a more adaptable choice. The 01 cannot accept 02 filters because they are too wide.

For example, the Hario V60 02 Project Waterfall Filter Papers are designed specifically for the 02 dripper and ensure a clean, balanced extraction. They also support Project Waterfall, a charity bringing clean water to coffee-growing communities. If you value both quality and impact, the 02 size gives you access to these purpose-driven filters.

Trade-offs at a glance

Hario V60 01: Compact and quick: Best for single cups up to 300 ml. Smaller footprint, faster rinse, and less plastic or ceramic material. But you cannot use 02 filters, and you'll need to brew twice for two people. Ideal for solo drinkers who value speed and minimalism.
Hario V60 02: Versatile and batch-friendly: Holds up to 600 ml, accepts 01 filters when folded, and works with specialty editions like the Project Waterfall filters. Slightly larger and takes a bit more counter space. Best for households or anyone who wants one dripper that does it all.
Filter paper choice matters: The 02 size gives you access to more filter options, including the Project Waterfall edition that supports clean water initiatives. The 01 has fewer specialty filter choices. If cause-driven products appeal to you, the 02 opens that door.
